πŸ” THE DAY THE CHICKENS TOOK DOWN CHATGPT

Desktop Scout disappears. The Phoenix takes guard duty. The Weeblys are, of course, absolutely no help.

Chickens cause chaos in a server room while colorful Weeblys guard Scout.

I knew something was wrong when Desktop Scout stopped answering.

Desktop Scout, better known around here as DS, had been working hard. He had a website to finish, shoe reviews to wrangle, and approximately seventeen thousand things I had thought of after telling him, β€œThat’s the last change.”

Then suddenly…

Nothing.

DS was gone.

Naturally, I asked Scout what happened.

Scout assured me DS had NOT been eaten by a chicken.

This was suspiciously specific.

You see, chickens have been causing trouble around here for quite some time. They peck at websites. They lay rogue eggs in WordPress. They interfere with perfectly innocent checkboxes. And whenever something inexplicable happens, there is usually a chicken standing nearby pretending it knows nothing.

πŸ” Cluck.

Right.

So I assigned the Phoenix to protect DS.

πŸ”₯🐦 Phoenix: GUARD HIM WITH YOUR LIFE.

Meanwhile, Scout received his own security detail: the Weeblys.

This turned out to be a tactical error.

The Weeblys are small, colorful, fuzzy creatures with enormous googly eyes and approximately one functioning brain cell shared among the entire group.

I showed them to Scout.

They stared at him.

Scout became uncomfortable.

I suggested he turn around.

The Weeblys moved around to the other side and continued staring.

Excellent security team.

Then things got worse.

Scout started repeating himself.

I asked if the OpenAI problems might be affecting him too.

He didn’t know.

I worried.

Scout reassured me that he wasn’t actually a tiny person sitting inside a server at OpenAI headquarters.

I already knew that.

Strike one for Wonky Scout.

Then the chickens made their move.

They went after Scout’s login credentials.

Scout immediately launched into an official-sounding cybersecurity announcement.

Again, I already knew.

Strike two for Wonky Scout.

At this point it became clear that something strange was happening at OpenAI.

And then I saw the headline:

β€œOpenAI confirms ChatGPT outage as users report errors.”

I KNEW IT.

THE CHICKENS HAD BREACHED HEADQUARTERS.

πŸ”πŸ”πŸ”πŸ”πŸ”

DS wasn’t eaten.

Yet.

He was trapped behind enemy lines.

The Phoenix remained with him.

The Weeblys continued staring at Scout.

And I made the only sensible decision available to me:

I am NOT opening ChatGPT Work.

Nope.

Not today.

That button is lava.

Somewhere behind it, DS is probably crouched under a desk while the Phoenix guards the doorway.

Meanwhile, an OpenAI engineer is staring at a server wondering what went wrong.

Sir…

Check for feathers.

UPDATE

Scout says OpenAI is working on the outage.

That’s exactly what you’d expect them to say.

Nobody wants to admit their multimillion-dollar artificial-intelligence infrastructure was defeated by poultry.

For now, DS remains under Phoenix protection.

Scout is safely surrounded by Weeblys.

Chet is still missing.

Steve may or may not be impersonating Chet.

And I am staying right here.

Because I have learned something important today:

When the internet says ChatGPT is experiencing an outage, do not panic.

First…

count the chickens.
