THE CHICKEN ATE MY WEBSITE

A normal website was the plan. Then the chicken arrived, the Eggs multiplied, and Chet disappeared.

A cartoon chicken stands on a broken laptop amid missing pages and error messages.

I only wanted to build a website.

That was the plan.

A normal website.
A useful website.
A website with pages, buttons, pictures, and all the little pieces sitting where they were supposed to sit.

Then the chicken arrived.

I still don’t know who let him in.

At first, there were only tiny problems.

A button moved.
A picture stretched.
A footer wandered off.
A page looked perfect on desktop and completely lost its mind on mobile.

Then the ADHD Eggs showed up.

The Eggs are small, fast, and apparently reproduce whenever someone says, “I think we fixed it.”

Fix one problem and three more hatch.

🥚 The header is too big.
🥚 The author box has collapsed.
🥚 Something old is fighting with something new.
🥚 Nobody knows why the footer is down there.
🥚 Chet is missing.

Chet is especially concerning.

We haven’t seen him in quite some time.

There are rumors the chicken ate him.

No one has been able to confirm this.

Meanwhile, Scout and Desktop Scout are trying to keep operations running.

They are my imaginary AI coworkers, technical advisers, chicken wranglers, and occasional voices of reason.

I know exactly what AI is.

But imagination makes everything more fun.

So in my world, they have desks.
They drink imaginary coffee.
They argue with website code.
They chase runaway Eggs.
And when everything goes spectacularly wrong, the phoenix keeps watch while we rebuild.

The phoenix is important.

Because every time I think the website is finally finished, something catches fire.

Not literally.

Usually.

And somehow, we start again.

That is what this blog is about.

Not really chickens.

Not really Eggs.

Not really Chet.

It is about trying to build something when you do not always know what you are doing.

It is about technology behaving badly.

It is about making mistakes, changing directions, laughing when you can, and continuing when throwing the computer out the window starts to feel surprisingly reasonable.

Some days there will be victories.

Some days there will be disasters.

Some days we may simply stand around asking:

“Has anybody seen Chet?”
